What Type Of Therapy Do You Use?

One of the most commonly asked questions I get is: What type of therapy (theory) do you use? So I figured that I would add it to my blog.

I use several different approaches in working with people. I have had a lot of successes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy, which are both short term therapies. CBT works on how you view your life (is the glass half empty or half full) and Solution Focused Therapy focuses on solutions you have yet to try, rather than continue to get frustrated talking about what the problem is. When my client and I agree that it is appropriate, I will work with them on childhood issues that are affecting their current functioning. All of this might seem foreign to you, so my recommendation would be to find a therapist who you feel comfortable with and then talk to them about their style of therapy. Many times, the theory is not as important to a client as is the relationship they have with the therapist. Usually I ask my clients a series of questions that helps me decide which theory would be most effective for them. If you are interested in learning more, call me.
