How long will therapy take?

Written by a therapist in Long Beach.

This is a tough question to answer accurately. So I will try answering it this way:

If you go to a personal trainer and want to lose 100 pounds, the trainer can do an equation of how many calories you would need to eat per day along with how much exercise you need to determine approximately how long it would take to lose the weight. If you follow it exactly, then in theory, you will lose weight in a set amount of time. How many people do you know that this has worked for? In therapy, there is no equation because everyone is different and things come up as therapy takes place. Road blocks that weren’t anticipated (from the outside world and internal blocks) can’t be measured or predicted and so unfortunately therapy can’t be predicted either.
