Tina Sowers

Associate Therapist at Long Beach Therapy

My core belief as a therapist is that you are the expert in your life. My job is to support you in discovering how you want to live your best, healthiest, most liberated life. Our work together is to uncover what keeps you from living out your values and goals and to help you get to the life you want. Sometimes the things that keep us stuck can be beliefs about ourselves or the world, unhelpful coping strategies, struggles with relationships, depression or anxiety, trauma responses that we feel no control over, or the weight of life stresses and transitions. We will work together to get to the root of whatever is holding you back and together forge a way forward. It is my goal to provide the safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore your feelings, experiences, values, goals, new skills, and new ideas. I have had the privilege to walk with individuals experiencing a variety of issues from depression and anxiety, to parenting struggles, trauma (including attachment trauma, religious trauma, and sexual trauma), major illness, loss, and significant life transitions.

Prior to earning my masters degree in social work and entering the mental health field, I spent 20 years teaching children, teens and adults to love and enjoy making music at the piano. After several years, I realized that my favorite part of the work was not the music, but my relationships with my students, and the ways that I could customize the learning environment to their needs and interests. So I decided to pursue a career in mental health where I could build therapeutic relationships with my clients and create a safe environment for them to seek growth and healing. I look forward to hearing your stories and walking with you through some of your journey.

I currently live in Southern California with my partner, two teens, and two puppies. I love reading, being in nature, and playing games (board and video) with my teens.

The Values We Live By

What makes us different?

Personal Approach

Therapy is a personal journey and can vary greatly from one person to another. The pace and specific methods used will depend on your unique needs, preferences, and circumstances. The ultimate goal is to empower you to understand yourself better, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and improve your overall quality of life.

How Long Will Therapy Take

The length of therapy is different for everyone – some people find benefit in just a few sessions, while others may engage in long-term therapy. The decision on how long to continue therapy is typically made jointly by you and your therapist, based on the your specific needs and goals.

Self-Improvement

Therapy isn’t just for those with mental illness. People seek therapy for a wide range of reasons, including stress management, personal growth, relationship issues, grief, “feeling stuck”, and more. Therapy is a space where you can speak openly, without judgment, and work towards positive change in your life.

Picking The Right Therapist

Finding the right therapist is a crucial part of the process. It’s important for individuals to feel comfortable and connected with their therapist, as this greatly influences the effectiveness of the therapy. I often tell my clients that therapy is like solving a puzzle. The more pieces you feel comfortable showing your therapist, the better the therapist will be in helping you to solve the puzzle.
