At Long Beach Therapy, we offer individual therapy to help our clients reach their goals by exploring, understanding, and managing their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This process can be particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing psychological distress, life challenges, or wanting to improve their mental health and well-being.
Couples therapy is specifically designed to help you and your romantic partner gain insight into your relationship, learn how to resolve conflicts together, and improve relationship satisfaction utilizing a variety of therapeutic approaches.
In couples therapy, you and your partner will be encouraged to share your thoughts and feelings, learn effective communication skills, understand each other’s perspectives better, and collaboratively work on strategies to strengthen the relationship. The therapist acts as a neutral mediator and educator, helping you and your partner identify and address underlying issues and patterns in your relationship, with the ultimate goal of fostering a healthier, more supportive partnership.
Family therapy involves working with families to establish healthy boundaries and nurture change and development. It focuses on improving communication, solving family problems, understanding and handling special family situations, and creating a better functioning home environment.
In family therapy, the therapist explores patterns of behavior between you and your family members, helping everyone to understand and manage conflicts and changes within the family dynamic. The goal is to strengthen your family system, ensuring that each member’s needs are met and that healthy, supportive relationships are fostered within your family unit.
At Long Beach Therapy, we utilize a variety of tools and techniques to help our clients reach their goals. In addition to regular talk therapy we also offer researched-based methods of helping clients through their issues. One of those research-based methods is called EMDR.
Although EMDR Therapy was first used to treat complex PTSD and “simple” traumas, EMDR isn’t just for PTSD. EMDR can be very effective with depression, anxiety, phobias, self-esteem issues, anger issues, and grief and loss, as well as PTSD and trauma. Many people choose EMDR their extensive time in traditional talk therapy has not yet resulted in substantial progress. EMDR tends to be a quicker treatment compared to other types of therapy styles.
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In CBT, the therapist helps you break down your complex and overwhelming issues into smaller, more manageable tasks. The therapist helps you understand the non-obvious connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and then the therapist works collaboratively with you to figure out the best ways to make changes so that you can increase your mental health and happiness.
CBT is based on the idea that your thoughts influence your feelings, which then affect how you behave. It’s also based on the idea that the client has an important perspective that needs to be incorporated into therapy.
Holistic therapy, which is an approach to mental health that considers the whole person, including their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing, rather than focusing solely on symptoms. This method integrates various techniques and practices to address all aspects of your life, aiming to bring about comprehensive wellness and balance.
At Long Beach Therapy, we believe that it is important to look at the “whole person”, so holistic therapy is an approach that we use to make sure that all of your needs, at every level, are being nurtured.
Person-Centered talk therapy is a process where you and your therapist engage in a series of conversations aimed at improving your mental health and well-being.
During these sessions, you are encouraged to speak openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, while the therapist listens and provides non-judgmental guidance and support. This type of therapy can help you understand and work through a variety of issues, such as emotional challenges, life transitions, and mental health conditions, with the goal of achieving greater self-awareness, emotional relief, and improved coping skills.
FLASH therapy was developed to help people process and cope with difficult memories. It’s especially useful for traumatic memories that can be overwhelming or intrusive. There are two types of FLASH therapy: Dr. Manfield’s flash technique and Tom Zimmerman’s “four blink flash” technique. At Long Beach Therapy, we have therapists who are trained in both.
Brainspotting is a therapy technique that can help resolve many different issues including trauma, complex PTSD, performance anxiety, general anxiety, grief over a divorce or grief over the loss of a loved one. Brainspotting helps identify and heal where the issue is stored within your neurobiology to help you get “unstuck” from the issue and move forward in your life. So regardless if you are an actor/singer with performance anxiety, a student who has test anxiety, or someone who has had extreme trauma, brainspotting can often help.
TFCBT stands for Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It’s a therapy model based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that specifically addresses trauma. It’s designed to help you process and heal from traumatic experiences and PTSD symptoms in a safe and supportive environment.
TFCBT combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with other methods that are specifically tailored to people who have experienced some type of trauma. It’s about understanding your trauma and changing how your traumatic experiences influence your current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Therapy is a personal journey and can vary greatly from one person to another. The pace and specific methods used will depend on your unique needs, preferences, and circumstances. The ultimate goal is to empower you to understand yourself better, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and improve your overall quality of life.
The length of therapy is different for everyone – some people find benefit in just a few sessions, while others may engage in long-term therapy. The decision on how long to continue therapy is typically made jointly by you and your therapist, based on your specific needs and goals.
Therapy isn’t just for those with mental illness. People seek therapy for a wide range of reasons, including stress management, personal growth, relationship issues, grief, “feeling stuck”, and more. Therapy is a space where you can speak openly, without judgment, and work towards positive change in your life.
Finding the right therapist is a crucial part of the process. It’s important for individuals to feel comfortable and connected with their therapist, as this greatly influences the effectiveness of the therapy. I often tell my clients that therapy is like solving a puzzle. The more pieces you feel comfortable showing your therapist, the better the therapist will be in helping you to solve the puzzle.
