When Should I Go To Couples Counseling or Marriage Counseling?
Often times, people come in to couples counseling after the problem has gotten so big that either one or both members of the couple has already given up. I cannot stress the importance of getting help as soon as possible. If your partner refuses to go to therapy with you, there is nothing stopping YOU from going to get some ideas on how to help your relationship. You might also learn tools that your partner likes that could influence your partner into coming in with you. There are many different reasons people come in for couples counseling.
-
Having an objective sounding board for each of you to get ideas from.
-
Learning to communicate without yelling or putting the other person on the defensive.
-
Learning to listen. Just because you hear what your partner is saying, doesn’t mean that you are listening to their needs or understand their feelings.
-
Figuring out how to compromise without always feeling like someone is winning or losing.
-
Learning how to get reconnected and rekindle positive feelings that you once had towards each other.
