Getting Your ADHD Under Control

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with adults and children who suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Most are aware that they have attention issues, but know little else about it other than that. The common theme among them all is that they feel frustrated by how ADHD impacts their lives. Some learn to cope with the issue by taking medication, but others are uncomfortable going that route, or find that the medication did not help at all.

There are numerous behavioral approaches that can be used to treat ADHD. The first step in any process is to make sure that it is indeed an attention issue. Some people who have been diagnosed with ADHD are actually suffering from problems with anxiety or other disorders. It is crucial that the correct underlying issue be the one that is treated.  You can go to a therapist or psychiatrist to get diagnosed properly.  From there you can choose if you want to try medication, work with a therapist to learn how to control behaviors/symptoms, or a combination of both.
