Finding Help with Depression

It can be tough to feel sad, tired, irritable, and unsociable on a daily basis, yet that is what a growing number of people are being forced to do. Depression is not easy to treat, as both medication and strength of will often fail to help. What other options are open to you if all else has failed?

Although I do not often delve into childhood issues with clients, I do believe that one of the best ways to move forward in treating depression is to look to the past in order to find out where the root of your specific depression might stem from.  It doesn’t necessarily mean looking into your childhood, but it very well might mean that.  That approach is combined with laying the groundwork to address what is to come in terms of your personal relationships as well as figuring out how to improve your day to day so that you are not having to suffer while we are looking at the root cause.

Depression is not something that should be battled alone, which is why speaking to a therapist is recommended. Your comfort is key here, which is why in home therapy may be the way for you to go, especially if the thought of having to get out of bed and going to a therapist’s office is something that fills you with anxiety.

Before you take that step, though, talk to your physician first, so that medical issues can be ruled out as the cause of your depression.  This does not necessarily mean depression, but there are various vitamin deficiencies and general medical conditions that can look a lot like depression.  If taking a specific vitamin or eating more of a certain food would make your symptoms go away, why not try that first?
