How would a therapist help me get through trauma caused by COVID?
Over the years, I have worked with hundreds of people suffering from trauma. My training has involved learning a host of different methods that will help people learn to live with and reduce the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The symptoms of PTSD run the gamut from insomnia, destructive behavior, anxiety, hypervigilance, nightmares, and the list goes on.
In the early part of my career, I was trained in using a “person centered” approach to treatment, which meant that I allowed the patient to tell their story in their own words without much guidance from me. From there, I would try to make them feel safe and supported as we searched for answers. It was a very long process, but one that many patients really needed.
I am also trained in Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization (EMDR) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) which are both evidence-based approaches to trauma that is based on research. At the heart of these treatments are the retelling or reprocessing of the traumatic story so that the person can replace fear with relaxation, which is a technique I teach to clients in therapy.
I find it an ideal situation that I am trained in all three of these techniques, as then my client is then free to choose the one that makes them the most comfortable.
If you would like to know more about the treatment methods so that you can start healing from the trauma that COVID has caused, please feel free to call or email me (LongBeachTherapy@ymail.com) or call me (562-310-9741). Together, we can figure out a treatment method that will leave you feeling safe and comfortable.
Due to licensing restrictions, since I am licensed in California, I can only see people who reside in California. I often see people in other parts of the state through online teletherapy (such as zoom). If you live outside of California, these are some tips in finding a therapist in your area. If you are looking for a therapist in your area, try doing a google search on: “therapist near me” or type in your city or state such as “therapist in California” or “therapist in Long Beach”.
