Are There Drug or Alcohol Treatment Programs For Non-Religious People?

I get this question a lot: Is it possible for me to get support for alcohol or drug abuse if I am not religious and don’t want to go to AA or NA?

There is a recovery program for everyone, regardless of their beliefs. It doesn’t really matter what you do or don’t believe spiritually, you can get a lot of help and support from recovery groups. Smart Recovery is non-religious and takes a cognitive approach to recovery.  AA and NA have programs that are designed especially for those who are atheist, and who hold other religious beliefs other than Christianity. There are also other programs outside of those two that offer support without requiring you to believe in a higher power. Those people who suffer from drug or alcohol abuse usually have the best chance of staying clean and sober when they commit to a combination of therapy and time spent with a recovery group.

Recovery groups provide you with a wealth of information that can help you on your path to sobriety, and they also are a great way to get support from your peers. You will find that your life will change for the better when you open up and share your experiences with people who have problems similar to yours.
If you are in recovery, or are using and want help, give me a call and I can walk you through programs that don’t have a religious aspect to them.  The combination of a good recovery program and a therapist who has experience with addiction is a great start to your road to recovery.
