Finding an interactive mental health therapist. Not all therapists just nod their head and say “what do you feel about that”.  Written by a licensed therapist in Long Beach.

Many people call looking saying “I want a therapist near me who is interactive” because there are many therapists out there who do a lot of head nodding and validation without giving tools to succeed.  When a client leaves a mental health therapy appointment feeling like it was a waste of time and money because they feel like they could have gotten the same feedback from a bobblehead doll, that is a problem.  In these situations, it is important to talk to your therapist about what you need, but some therapists are just there to validate (and that can be very helpful).

A picture of a 40-ish year old female mental health therapist sitting in an office with a female client. The angle of the picture is from the side so you can see both the therapist and client. The therapist is using hands expressively while talking and the client is smiling. They are each on their own comfortable chair looking facing each other. There is abstract art on the wall and a big window looking out onto a tree.

At Long Beach Therapy, we are much more interactive and will give tangible tools that you can leave session with.  Just like other therapists, we are going to validate when appropriate, but we are much more about teaching skills that you can use outside of therapy.
