Is online therapy effective?
Not only have I seen how effective online therapy is myself, there are many research studies coming out showing that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy and in some situations, it is more effective. Why is this so? The most effective therapy is the therapy you actually attend.
When COVID hit and therapists were offering online therapy, people who would have never wanted to physically walk into a therapy appointment for fear of someone they know seeing them go in. People who have anxiety and have to face triggers going out in the world also started coming to therapy.
This being said, there are situations where in-person therapy may still be more effective. One of the examples that comes to mind is therapy for small children. Play therapy is harder to do online and kids tend to heal through action, not words. There are always exceptions to every research study and every claim made, but what it boils down to is WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
