How to find a therapist near me?

I have written a lot about the question that people ask a lot, which is: “How do I find a therapist near me?”

My main piece of advice on finding a local therapist who does in person therapy is to call around and leave a bunch of messages and ultimately go with the therapist you have the best gut feeling about.  Don’t forget that when you leave a voicemail for a therapist, to include the best times to call you so that you aren’t playing phone tag.

At Long Beach Therapy, we offer in person therapy in Long Beach, but if we are too far to drive and you aren’t wanting telehealth (“zoom therapy”), then it is really about making a lot of calls and talking to different therapists and then ultimately trusting your gut feeling as to which therapist will be right for you.

Another tip is to “shop around”.  This means to schedule one appointment with several therapists and then go with the one you like best.  If you really like the first therapist you see, then you can cancel the other therapists.  This approach gives you options and since it often takes a few weeks to schedule an appointment with a therapist, you have them lined up so that if you don’t like the first therapist you scheduled with, you don’t have to wait another few weeks to try another one.

Trusting your gut feeling about a therapist allows you to find who you feel safe with because people who feel comfortable with their therapist and have a safe place to heal are more likely to heal (and in less time) in therapy because it doesn’t take so long to open up and feel comfortable.

At Long Beach Therapy, we usually have in-person appointments within a week so that clients aren’t waiting too long for a therapy appointment.   We work with clients on healing past pain, help with lifestyle choices, increasing happiness, help with stress-management strategies, help with depression, help with anxiety, relationship issues, among other issues that we help our clients with.

Our therapists offer non-judgmental therapy so that you can feel free to talk in a judgement-free zone.  We respect that you have the courage to look at things that are holding you back in life and you have the courage to take the steps to change.  How can anyone judge that courage as anything but positive.

So if you are looking for an in-person therapist in Long Beach, please call us at Long Beach Therapy. We have local therapists for people in Long Beach and can also offer online therapy if you aren’t local to Long Beach.
