How to stop anxiety

If you feel trapped in your anxiety, feel like your about to have a heart attack and/or feel like you are “going crazy”, you may have anxiety.  “Crazy” isn’t a therapeutic word and it isn’t anywhere in the diagnostic manual, but that is how a lot of my anxious clients report feeling.

People with anxiety often feel like they have tried everything. They have tried taking deep breaths and that sometimes makes it feel worse or makes them feel like they are going to hyperventilate.

At Long Beach Therapy, our staff is committed to providing safe and compassionate care for individuals with anxiety and other mental health conditions. When you attend therapy at Long Beach Therapy, we help you get control of your anxiety and let go of the uncontrollable. Since we believe the best therapist for anxiety is the one who you feel safest with, we have options of different therapists so that you can get the one you feel the most safe/comfortable with to start your journey of healing.

Some tips to deal with your anxiety:

Tip 1:

Don’t try to do anything different with your breathing, just breath normally and focus on how your breath feels as your lungs expand or how your breath feels as the air passes through your lips.

Tip 2:

Try to get to a quiet place. If you are in public, tell the people you are with that you need to go to the bathroom.  Sit in the stall for a minute and try to relax the best you can.

Tip 3:

Tell someone you trust what you experience and what they can do to help.

Call a therapist near you for anxiety help. There are effective treatments for anxiety that can help (EMDR and CBT therapy are both treatments that can be done online or in person).  At Long Beach Therapy, we have an office in Long Beach for in person therapy and we also see clients throughout California through online therapy.
