Finding A Gay Friendly Therapist In Long Beach. Written by a LGBTQ therapist in Long Beach.

If you are a gay, transgender, bisexual or lesbian person or you just aren’t sure. I am going to give you information in this blog post about finding a gay friendly therapist that is right for you.  If you are encountering problems in your personal life, relationships, or even problems at work, you need to know there are people out there to talk to and seek help from. It’s not always easy to find good therapeutic help in general, but it’s especially difficult for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

I have been providing mental health therapy throughout our community for well over 15 years. I was the director of clinical services at The Center in Long Beach, working with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people throughout Orange County and Los Angeles and I have also been out of the closet since I was 20 years old.  I understand, first hand, some of the struggles you are dealing with.   I want to give you answers to help you get through many different issues and help remove some of the barriers in your life to allow all of you to live wonderful and successful lives. Finding answers is not always easy to do, even with access to the internet.  Many gay men, lesbians and transgender people face discrimination daily and simply want to have normal lives with their chosen partners and build happy, successful lives.

Due to discrimination that we deal with all the time, teaming up with an LGBTQ / “gay friendly therapist” that can relate to your life and that you feel good being around can be a challenge.  It’s not only very important but paramount for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in our community to be able to reach out for help and get it.  We need to work with therapists who will accept us for who we are, not just tolerate us.

I want to assure each and every one of you that because I have faced discrimination myself, I understand the need for finding a gay friendly therapist.  I am a very supportive and affirming therapist that you can trust and rely on.  I have been discriminated against within the medical world for being a lesbian just as many of you have faced discrimination.  I know the embarrassment that comes with that discrimination and I also know how important it is to feel safe within a medical setting because it is not something that you can do without.  You can’t just choose to not get help with medical issues and mental health issues, and that is simply not a fair choice to have to make.   This is about feeling good about ourselves and being accepted with others within our communities.  This can and must start within the medical world that needs to help people develop positive and good inner feelings within their patients.

Please call me if you would like more information regarding counseling for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Long Beach, Lakewood or surrounding areas. I look forward to working with you and answering your questions.

Keep in mind that therapy can be a wonderful experience for many people in many different situations. Talking things out can help people discover their own demons, their own fears and their own shortcomings as well as their wonderful qualities. If you are gay, bisexual, lesbian, or a transgender person, or just not sure, therapists, like myself, will help you find your way through the conflicts and the insecurities that society might be mounding on top of you. Everyone is unique, everyone is special and no one should ever feel they must remain silent or hidden in dark corners.
